Lindy Hop is one of the earliest forms of swing dance. Find out where to dance Lindy Hop, Swing, and West Coast Swing in the Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and the rest of the Northeast and New England!
The original form of swing dance was created in the 1920's and 1930's in Harlem. Danced to the jazz music of the time, the style evolved from tap, breakaway, and Charleston. After experiencing a revival in the 80s and 90s, Lindy Hop is now danced and performed around the world by people of all ages.
Rather than try to explain it, here are a few of our favorite videos showing off the dance:
That's what Swingmonkey is here for! Most dances have a beginner lesson just before the dancing. There are other in-depth classes being taught all the time! Go check out the calendar to find an event near you. We can't wait to see you on the dance floor!
Swingmonkey.com was founded in 2001 by Greg Howley and C. Todd Lombardo as a single resource for information about Lindy Hop dances and lessons for Connecticut's growing Lindy Hop and swing dance community. As the community grew, Swingmonkey's reach expanded to collect information and connect dancers throughout the Northeastern United States.
In 2002, Michael Delaney came on board as site designer and developer and continues as the site's operator. As such, everything you see here is primarily his fault.
Now in its second decade, Swingmonkey.com is streamlined to make it quick and easy to find information about where to go dancing in the Northeast.
